Personal History Andromeda was not a planned child by her parents who, planned each pregnancy down to the dates of birth and gender. As is Sheffield tradition, all children were planned meticulously and a surprise pregnancy threw out the entire game plan. Her parents were rather put out by this surprise child, and Andromeda was often left with nannies for the most part as her parents often focused on the ‘planned children’ and their lives. Four years separated Andromeda from her next eldest sibling, Kali and those four years were very telling.

Where Kali was bright and outgoing and shining in her parent’s love and praise, Andromeda was pretty much ignored and left to her own devices. This led Andie as she liked to be called, to become a loner within the family. As she grew up, she became more and more aware that her presence in the family was not welcomed by her parents or her siblings, Andie learned how to avoid conflict by keeping herself to her own bedroom as much as possible. She set her goals early in her life and worked towards them, constantly changing the methods to reach them until she found the right path. At the age of 6, Andie chose to work towards the lofty goal of being a doctor and joining Starfleet. Two of her older brothers were already working within Starfleet and had made very good careers there. At 7 however she was tested and it was discovered that the family’s selective breeding program for centuries had brought some rather startling attributes into the genetic structures, which had been missed in the older children. Andie has a photographic memory, and rather limited ESP. She was also highly intelligent, which worked against her parents who suddenly found interest in their youngest child. Andie rejected them and their new found ‘love and affection’ for her, content to work towards her own goals and not that of her parents.

Andie threw herself into her studies determined to learn all she could about medicine in all cultures. She asked for tutors from Vulcan, to help her understand Vulcan physiology and biology, and her parents, reluctantly granted that. By the age of 10, Andie had finished primary schooling and was halfway through her High school education. She was determined to learn all she could, so she could leave home and live on her own. She studied medicine under her Vulcan tutor for 3 years, and studied alternate medicine via another tutor from the wilds of the Americas. During this time, from the ages of 10-14, Andie turned her bedroom at Olympus House into her own private sanctuary, filled with her own personal flights of fancy and the one hidden talent she kept from her parents. Andie could paint and draw very well, and hadn’t had any instruction in it. What she had learned she had learned from books from the family library and her own imagination. At 15, Andie moved out of home, and removed her title from her name. She headed to Oxford and started university there, determined to get her medical degree from there before joining Starfleet. It was here, Andie made what she would consider her first friend. Though at the time, that friend was not a true friend, but someone who her parents paid to keep an eye on her. The friend, a teen by the name of Naomi, was of the same class as Andie but not as smart and after three months, she slipped up and let the plan slip. Andie was very hurt over the whole incident and threw herself back into her studies and her art. At 21, Andie completed her studies, having taken extra time to cram as many courses in as possible. Then she took a vacation. Andie, packed up her belongings and moved completely from the family home, moving into a small house in Hawaii. She didn’t need a big house, and the small two bedroom house, her parents called it a shack, suited her well. Andie took a year to herself. She relaxed on the beach, learned to surf, made casual friends with the locals and then she applied to Starfleet.

In 2258, she was accepted into Starfleet’s medical program at the age of 22. Andromeda would spend the next 5 years on Earth Studying Medicine. And upon graduation, at 27, she was assigned to the USS Melbourne, where her sister Selene was stationed. It was, to be concise, a disaster. Selene chose not to acknowledge the youngest of the family, and Andie refused to bow and scrape to her sister as Selene expected lower ranks to do.

After 6 months, Andie asked for a transfer. She was transferred to the USS Constitution as a medical officer.

Family History

The Sheffield Family is an old British family, whose links to the nobility are as strong today as they were back in the late 1700’s. The 1st Duke and Duchess of Sheffield were blessed by the king of the day, King George the Second upon his coronation in 1727. He granted the then Marquess of Sheffield, the Dukedom, for loyalty to the crown, as well as granting him several minor titles which were passed down to his eldest sons.
The Duke of Sheffield had 3 sons, and 2 daughters. His eldest was Marquess of Sheffield and Earl of Rotherham, Lord James Sheffield. His Second Son, was Baron Darton, Lord Matthew Sheffield. Third Son, was Lord Edward Sheffield, who later went into the Priesthood. His eldest daughter, who was born between Edward and Matthew, was Lady Susannah Sheffield. The youngest child and last daughter was Lady Mary Sheffield. From Lord James Sheffield sprung a dynasty that has lasted the Centuries. His marriage to Lady Elizabeth, Daughter of the Earl of Bristol, was successful in every sense of the word, a proper society marriage with 4 sons and 3 daughters, all surviving into Adulthood. It was from this family that the Sheffield’s fortunes took an upswing. Two of the sons went to Americas, where they founded large trading companies which fed the family coffers well. Trade in Sugar, Spices in india, Silk and Ivory from the Elephants, all brought the Sheffield family renown and money. The Daughters were married into noble families to increase the family wealth, often being pushed into marriages where there were no heirs and soon, titles were being changed over into the Sheffield name. By the time of Queen Victoria the Duke of Sheffield was one of the wealthiest in the world. Family members who left England, went to foreign countries with the mandate to increase the family wealth. The Sheffield family at this time, held more titles than they knew what to do with.
Duke of Sheffield
Duke of Bristol
Marquess of Rotherham
Marquess of Bath
Earl of Leicester
Earl of Portland
Earl of Carlisle
Were just to name a few.

Their family home became one of the most prized houses in England. Known as the Gilded Palace by the common folk, its actual name is “Olympus House”. It was named thus by the 2nd Duke of Sheffield when it was completed just before his death. He said that it would be like if the ancient gods came to life and found a place to stay. It was this thought that pushed his family to their monetary goals, for surely such a statement was meant to be upheld. It was from this, also, that the family’s penchant for choosing their names came about. Most female members of the family, born to being a Sheffield, had a mythological middle name. The male members of the family, only if they were the heir to the dukedom, had a mythological first name. Therefore, the 4th Duke of Sheffield was named Ares James Sheffield. His eldest son was named Apollo, and so on and so forth. Male members who were not of the principal line (not in line to inherit) had mythological Middle names. And as the family moved into the modern era of the 1900’s, the family began giving mythological first names to the females of the principal line. The Sheffield family’s fortunes suffered only slightly through the world wars, losing several of their males in the fighting, and even though the family was now spread over the world, with members in America, Australia, India, Germany, France and many more, they never lost sight of the family's ultimate goal - Money and with it, the power it brought. And in the early 1920’s the family finally managed to marry a son into the Royal family of England, though only to a cousin of the heir to the throne, but it was enough, to put the family into the Royal line of succession. The son, heir to the Dukedom, was one Aidoneus Sheffield. He preferred, unlike his predecessors, to be called Aiden.

From Aidoneus Sheffield, the family, though still all reporting to the head of the family, took on a new turn. Technology. it was the key to the future and with it, money and power would follow. Trade was all well and good and was the backbone of the family empire, but technology, Aidoneus believed would serve the family well. From this, his son, was able to protect the family through Eugenics Wars and the following the third world war, though the family was largely diminished in the fighting and their descendants were able to help fund projects to help get the world back on track. By then the family which had once numbered in the hundreds, now numbered approximately in the 60’s. And the Principle line, recalled the entire family to England, while they secretly funded the building of the Phoenix, in Bozeman, Montana. When the family returned to the Family home in 2063, they found that the current head of the family had no male issue and only one daughter surviving the devastating chaos. The family wealth had been sealed away in the huge underground vaults at the family estate of Olympus House, and they had massive amounts of stored luxurious resources, like silk, spices and gold.

The head of the house, was Apollo Eric Sheffield, the 4th. And his daughter was known as Athena Mary Sheffield. She was the youngest of 5, and the only survivor. Apollo chose, at this time, to look at the men of a suitable age from within his only family. Now the majority were distant cousins, and the Sheffield family, though still having links to the British Royals, was still far down the line of succession, to far, Apollo decided to make a play for his child's future. He eventually chose Thomas Ares Sheffield as his daughter’s husband. Much to Athena’s disgust and distrust. And even though her father chose her husband she managed to convince him to leave the family in her hands and for the title to be passed down to her first born son. Agreeing, Apollo organized the marriage with those conditions placed in the pre-nuptial agreement. With the birth of their first son, who was also their first child, Athena was pleased to see her son named Lord Ares Eric Sheffield the 6th, Marquess of Rotherham, Marquess of Bath and Earl of Portland, heir to the Duke of Sheffield and Bristol. Much to his father’s disgust. Ares the 6th was destined to change the whole family’s fortunes, using his family contacts with Zephram Cochrane he and his children built a trading fleet, bringing Earth items to many distant planets, and it wasn’t long before the first Sheffield, a younger son of Ares’ grandson, joined Starfleet. This started a family history of serving in Starfleet. And the family managed to get it put into the Starfleet Bylaws that the Sheffield family’s heir to the dukedom could serve as well as long as he left active service once he succeeded to the Dukedom.

In 2200’s the Family began their expansion of the family line, with several new races screened to see which would provide the family with the best attributes. The family back in the 1900’s had been covertly interested in the Eugenics, but for different reasons. They wanted their family members to have the longest lives possible and the best of everything life had to offer. And now with many different races out there, they had the chance for selective breeding.
