Caroline Lawson Thompson
Personality & Traits
Very outgoing personality; very intelligent, bordering on genius; excellent engineer, can fix just about anything from a relay to a warp core. Abby likes to attend parties on board, once she gets familiar with the crew. Tries to organize a "game night" for some of the other female crew, where they can play various games: cards, board games that she found in the computer records and had the computer reconstruct her one, and talk about the single men on the crew.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strength: Excellent engineer; stays at her post in emergencies; a good and loyal friend. When she was younger living on the freighter, she often would enter the cargo hold where the crew kept all the broken equipment. Abigail would take some off the broken things and sit on the floor, and repair the pieces and left them on a shelf. When the engineers came on duty, they would see the repaired pieces on the shelf, and didn't know who repaired them.
Weaknesses: Can use a phaser but doesn't always know what she'll hit.
To become a chief engineer.
Hobbies & Interests
Reads a great deal, choices range from historical novels to engineering manuals; listening to music, mostly classical, has a large audio file collection
Abigail Lawson was born a freighter that her parents owned, on a run between Earth and Drayton. Her mother was in labor for 18 hours, something her mother never lets her forget...in a family joking kind of way. Growing up on a freighter could be fun and it also be lonely. It's the same people every day. When a new hand would signup. it was almost a holiday. Crewing a freighter isn't like serving aboard a starship....on a freighter you'd be not only responsible for your own section, but you'd be expected to help out in other sections when needed. A bridge officer might need to be the ship's cook one day. An engineer, hauling cargo. It was like that for everyone, even Abigail. By the time she was 10, she had spent time in every department on board.
Entering the Academy, Lawson choose engineering as her major. The academy wasn't the freighter, here you had to concentrate on just one thing. Luckily, engineering was what she was best at. She found her instructors helpful and eager to give her and the other cadets help if they needed it. Things moved quickly at the academy...the service needed trained people in the new ships coming off the line. In her freshman year, her class allowed to work on one of the training vessels in Earth orbit. She worked hard and the years flew. By the time of graduation, she had logged 100 hours of space training. And she graduated in the top 10 of her class. Warrant Officer Lawson was assigned to USS Defiant's engineering section.
