New Sheriff in Town

Posted on Mon Sep 2nd, 2019 @ 4:11pm by Captain Charlotte Reynolds & Master Chief Petty Officer Amelia Redgrave & Lieutenant Commander Nathan Bishop & Ensign Colby Pierce & Crewman Apprentice Jovani Carter

Mission: Episode 1: A Lesson in Humility
Location: Armory, USS Defiant
Timeline: En Route

Charlotte made her way down to the Armory, with Nathan in tow. They were about to introduce him to the Security Staff, a transition which could be bumpy if not handled properly. She'd been unsure how to approach it and the turbolift ride hadn't been long enough for her to come up with a plan.

Stopping just outside the Armory door, she turned to her companion. "You ready for this?"

Nathan was silent as he rode in the lift with Charlotte. He was still dealing with the loss of his command along his demotion in rank. He had gone from sitting in the center seat to second officer. It was a bit much to take. Thankfully serving with Charlotte took some of the sting away.

He was roused from his thoughts by her question. Giving her a nod along with a smile if somewhat shaky, he answered, "Sure. lets go meet the troops."

With a nod, she pressed the panel, opening the door. The room was relatively quiet, the three officer's hard at work on their various projects. However, a flurry of movement off to one side indicated that their presence had been noted.

Master Chief Redgrave stood hurriedly at attention, and issued a heads up to the rest of the room. "Captain on deck!"

Colby stood up as soon as he heard the "captain on deck" command. He watched as the captain and the officer with her entered the room.

Jovani quickly unfolded his long, lanky frame from the chair he'd been occupying and snapped quickly to attention.

Charlotte usually would have allowed the team to rest at ease. She really only made people stay at attention if they were in trouble. But, she decided against it for now. Nathan could release them. "I'd like you all to meet someone. May I introduce Lt. Commander Nathan Bishop, your new Division Chief. Mr. Bishop?" She said, gesturing for him to introduce himself.

"Thank you Captain." Nathan said as he looked over the assembled officers. "Please everyone at ease. I promise not to take up too much of your time. I look forward to meeting you all individually as well as working with you all. I know you all know your jobs otherwise you wouldn't be here. So do your job and we'll get along fine. Don't, you're going to have problems. You have a problem, come see me. My door is always open. If we can't fix it, we'll go to the Exec. If he can't fix it, then we'll go to the Captain. Chain of Command is there for a reason. Use it." He looked them over, "Questions?"

Colby stood at ease, listening. He had no questions, so he stayed quiet. Once the captain and the commander left the room, he would look up the commanders records on the computer, just to get to know him better.

Amelia's hand raised tentatively. "Actually, sir, if I may," she said.

"Of course, Chief. Go ahead."

"Are you planning on restructuring the allocation of duties in the department?" Amelia asked, skirting her real question. "Your predecessor was regimented about our assignments. There wasn't a lot of flexibility. But I had discussed a special arrangement with him which I'd like to continue."

Nathan looked at Charlotte then back to Amelia. "Our job is security/tactical. I would like use to concentrate on that. However I am not going to regiment this department or it's crew. To do that is to hamstring it and all of you. Which makes the department less effective and all of you as well. Speak with me privately about this special assignment."

"Aye sir," she said. She'd wait until they were done with this meeting.

Reaching out a hand to shake Jovani stepped forward, "Welcome to the Defiant, sir. I hope you don't mind having such a junior enlisted on your team, but I look forward to getting to know you, and learning everything I can from you.", he said with a genuine smile.

Nathan clasped the offered hand in a firm handshake. "Thank you very much, Mr. Carter isn't it? And not at all. I look forward to working with you and getting to know you as well." Offering a smile of his own.

“I think I’ll leave you all to it,” Charlotte said, making her way toward the door. “You’ve got a good group here, Commander. I think you’ll be pleased.”

Nathan nodded and smiled at Charlotte, " I believe you are right Captain. I think, this is a good group as well."

Colby looked at the captain and the commander and wondered; we're a small staff...for awhile, he was the senior officer in security, making him the defacto acting chief, but now with a new department head, he was back to being just a junior officer....and he wondered who would be the commander's aide now?
