Commanding Officer: Admiral Anderson Glade
Roughly a decade old, the USS Essex is still one of the more advanced ships in the fleet. The Essex, under the command of Admiral Glade, possesses advanced command functions. As such, she will often remain toward the back of the group, using her weapons to attack from longer range.
Commanding Officer: Captain Richard Bunyon
The USS Martel is an older vessel, but one with some serious teeth. Though her offensive and defensive technologies aren't quite as advanced as Defiant's, she is much more heavily armed. Nicknamed "the Hammer" after her historical namesake, Martel can fill a similar role in combat, unleashing an overwhelming barrage of damage to break an enemies line. Martel's main issue is that her power systems are inherently unbalanced, due to the weapon systems, resulting in very inconsistent engine systems.
Commanding Officer: Captain Christopher James
The Constitution-Class USS Defiant might not be the most heavily armed ship in the battlegroup, but she is the most advanced. Balancing numerous capabilities, the vessel can play offense, defense, or command. Her scientific sensors allow her advanced targeting capabilities and precision warp jumps that the rest of the fleet cannot match.
Status: Sidelined for Repairs
The workhorse cruiser of the fleet before the Constitution class, the Armstrong-Class USS Temperance has many of the same capabilities as Defiant, though to a lesser degree. The vessel is less maneuverable than many other cruisers, with a mostly forward facing firing arc. She is capable of rapid warp jumps due to her 3 nacelles, and can out run all but the newest ships in the battlegroup.
The other Armstrong Class vessel in the battlegroup, the USS Wayfinder, serves as the AWACS vessel. Outfitted with the most advanced long range sensors, the Wayfinder can provide pivotal insights for the rest of the battlegroup, allowing them to prepare for the imminent arrival of additional ships, prep for a long range barrage, or various other important tactical moves. She is heavily shielded, but not as well armed as some of her companions, meaning that other vessels should remain nearby to protect their sensor hub.
Commanding Officer: Captain Henry Santiago
One of the oldest ships in the battlegroup, the recently retrofitted USS Polaris is a mixture of eras. A large explorer built during a time of peace, she's been strapped with a new set of weaponry and more advanced combat shields. Though slower and not quite as maneuverable the other light cruisers, the Polaris has an especially wide firing arc, allowing her to provide cover for a wider area than her fellow cruisers.
Commanding Officer: Captain Hallie Atwell
The Mayflower Class USS Fearless was an explorer as recently as a few weeks ago, but was recalled to the frontier and given a rapid retrofit. She possesses advanced sensors which allow for quick system targeting in combat. She's not the most heavily armed vessel, but her roll-bar allows for simultaneous attacks both fore and aft.
Commanding Officer: Commander Kiva sh'Eiron
The newest ship in the fleet, next to the Defiant, the USS Vanguard is one of Starfleet's proudest new achievements. The Aegis Class doesn't possess all of the capabilities of the Constitution, but it does provide a cost effective alternative when a full "Connie" isn't required. The Aegis is the epitome of a light cruiser varient, possessing slightly lower firepower and scientific capabilities than a heavy cruiser, but still representing a higher than average level of threat for a vessel its size.
The USS Borneo is one of the two Shepard class frigates in the battlegroup. Constructed as a complement to the Yeager class, the Shepard makes an excellent frigate. Fast, maneuverable, and versatile, the Shepard class is designed to act as an aggressor. Though she might not be able to score the finishing blow, she tends to be very good at luring the target into the firing arc of a more powerful vessel. The Borneo is the younger ship of its class, bearing some of the more recent technological advances, at the expense of a little hull plating.
Commanding Officer: Captain Talia Harith
The other Shepard class vessel, the USS Phobos is the older of the two. She doesn’t have as advanced systems, but was able to preserve more of her old combat armor. She’s a tough old ship, having survived more than her fair share of battles, and coming out intact. The Phobos fought in many of the major engagements with the Klingons a decade ago during the previous war. More likely than not, there’s a Klingon captain or two who will recognize her, and might steer clear.
The Guardian-Class USS Nebula is one of the newest ships in the fleet. Her dual-nacelles give her a lot of engine power for a ship her size. She is the fastest ship in Battlegroup Wyvern, focussing on harassing and intercepting tactics. She is not particularly well armed, so Nebula will never engage a vessel head on, except perhaps a vessel smaller than itself.
Commanding Officer: Captain Zayne Parket
The other Guardian-class Destroyer in the group, the USS Antietam is actually one of the oldest ships of its class. Her career has been dominated by reconnaissance and patrol duties, so she's not a stranger to combat. The ship has a completely new crew, after being restored from her near destruction a year ago.
The Newton-Class USS Forrest is one of the two carriers in BGW. With her two engineering hulls converted to hangers, she carries several squadrons of subwarp fighters. The Forrest was once one of the more advanced ships in the fleet, but hasn't been updated recently. She was slated for a full repair and refit just prior to the outbreak of war with the Klingons, but an Admiral's vessel jumped her place in line, and the Forrest was ultimately sent to the front lines. She received an impromptu repair, but her chief engineer has expressed concern that the ship isn't in proper combat condition.
Commanding Officer: Sean Thornton
The USS Nimitz is the other carrier in the fleet. She bears several fighter squadrons with experience in fighter tactics. As one of the vessels sent in to assist the missing USS Defiant, the Nimitz's pilots gained experience engaging the Hydran squadrons. The Nimitz's first engagement was the battle at Ellor, where she mostly covered the retreat of the 5th fleet, before being reassigned to Battlegroup Wyvern.
Commanding Officer: Captain Aria Mahajan
The USS Nobel is the designated Hospital Ship of the fleet. Outfitted with expansive medical wings and dozens of medical officers, the vessel isn’t intended to enter combat as a frontlines vessel. However, she wasn’t left defenseless. The powerful shields of the Nobel can be very difficult to penetrate, leaving time for her escorts to take the pressure off of her. Additionally, the ship is outfitted with a small number or phased arrays and a photon torpedo launcher in each direction. Though this wouldn’t be enough on its own, the powerful shields and fleet escorts make this sufficient deterant to all but the strongest ships.
Commanding Officer: Captain Talia Harith
The USS Tianjin is one of the older ships in the battle group. The old Walker class vessel was updated during the Federation-Klingon war a decade ago, and has been kept up to date in the meantime. However, she is still an older vessel and her power systems can be faulty on occasion. One of the more maneuverable frigates in Battlgroup Wyvern, the vessel utilizes its speed to make up for its defensive failings. A good reliable frigate, the ship makes for an excellent escort, even if its not a front line warship. The vessel was sacrificed in the Battle of Deriben II to save the USS Vanguard. Captain Harith's command was transferred to the USS Phobos.
The other side of the Shepard coin, the Yeager class USS Venture is more akin to a weaker light cruiser than a true frigate. More heavily armed and more shielded than other frigates, the Yeager Class instead is meant to be a fist. Though not as maneuverable as the Kerala class, a Yeager can inflict more damage in order to get the other ships attention. Her 4 warp nacelles also make it harder to disable her warp engines, as she can usually limp out on one or two. It was lost in the Battle of Deriben II.
