Questions That Need Answers

Posted on Fri Mar 22nd, 2019 @ 8:49am by Lieutenant Elias Lindholm & Captain Charlotte Reynolds V1

Mission: Episode 5: Better Angels
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Immediatly After "New Faces"

"Do you mind explaining why Ensign Pierce just informed me that he volunteered to be the ‘berserker’ that would board the Klingons when we engage them ma'am," Elias asked. He stood in front of the Captain's desk with his hands clasped behind his back. He wanted to adopt a non-confrontational stance, but he wanted to hear the Captain's reasoning behind her request.

Charlotte looked up from her report, one eyebrow raised noticeable. She wasn’t sure if she was more startled by the Lieutenant’s sudden and aggressive appearance or by the words coming out of his mouth.

“Enter,” she said to the man in front of her half for comedic effect. Seeing his reaction, she figured that wasn’t the mood for the moment. Instead she looked at him squarely and replied with the truth. “I’m going to be honest, Lieutenant. I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. If the Ensign is saying that’s the plan I laid out, then we might want to check the food stores for hallucinogens.”

Elias took a breath and started again, "Sorry for intruding, but I just had a fairly interesting conversation with Ensign Pierce where he informed me he had volunteered for a mission you had suggested. He then told me the plan was to beam over to the Klingon vessel and cause havoc as a "berserker".

He then raised one eyebrow as he stared at the CO, "Is that the case, or do we need to haul Ensign Pierce down to sickbay and have his head examined."

Charlotte looked equally confused. “I’m leaning toward the latter. I mentioned that one of the Klingon Generals might be infected by a parasite. After we deal with Indomitable, we may need to challenge him to one on one combat to draw him out and expose him. That is what he volunteered for. I have no intention of beaming anyone over to act as a ‘berserker’ on a Klingon ship.”

Elias nodded and smiled slightly. He relaxed his position and crossed his arms in front of his broad chest, "Well, i figured that you wouldn't have come up with such a hair-brained idea." He smiled jokingly to the captain, but then let a slight frown come to his face. "What i can not understand is why Pierce stated differently. Forgive me, but i do not know his service record. He definitely seems the impulsive type," Elias said.

Charlotte shook her head. "He served aboard the Hood and the Valiant, but I didn't see any red flags. Might just want to talk to him. These situations make everyone tense. He might just be looking for an outlet."

Elias brought one of his hands up to his chin and looked down deep in thought. "Perhaps. Or it could be just pre-combat jitters," Elias said, "I'll speak with him about this, unless you want to handle it? I know it's crucial for us to be playing off the same sheet of music."

Charlotte shook her head. She didn’t want to wade into a department squabble. “You can speak with him. Just keep me posted on what’s said. And don’t be too hard on him. We need morale up, so a gentle touch is best right now.”

Elias nodded. He agreed with her decision and made a mental note to discuss this issue with the Ensign when they spoke again. "Of course, Captain," he said as he unfolded his arms. "Well, since that is settled, i should head down to the armory and brief the security team."

The Captain nodded. "Sounds like a plan. Dismissed."

Elias came to attention, "Aye Captain." He then turned around smartly and exited the Captains ready room. He was confident after speaking with Charlotte about this issue, and he made a mental not to discuss it with Ensign Pierce the next time they spoke.
