Mission: Shore Leave: Starbase Arcadia
Location: Captain's Ready Room, USS Defiant
Timeline: Morning, Defiant Time

Commander Christopher James had just finished a fairly intensive workout in the Rec Room. Somehow the rock climbing wall had seemed more difficult than usual. Clearly, he was going to need to up his exercise regimen. The desk duties of command seemed to have softened him up a bit.

He was nursing a sore shoulder when his communicator chirped. Pulling it from his belt, he flipped it open. "James, here."

The voice of his transporter chief crackled through. "Commander, Ensign Young has just come aboard."

Chris was glad to hear of the StratOps Chief's arrival. Due to their duties, her assistance would be needed going forward with the mission. "Perfect. Tell her to get settled in her quarters and meet me in my ready room at 1100 hours."

With that, he flipped his comm shut, looped he arm of his bag over his shoulder, and headed off toward his quarters.

Chris had barely managed to get changed into his uniform and make it to his ready room before the chime sounded. "Come in," he said, not even bothering to take a seat.

Chloe entered Commander James's quarters and stood at attention. "Commander James, Ensign Chloe Young reporting as ordered, sir." She gave him a crisp salute.

"Ensign Young, welcome aboard. Here take a seat." He gestured to the chairs in front of his desk, while walking over to the replicator. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

Chloe said, "Coffee would be nice, Commander."

He set the drink down in front of the Ensign as he took a seat. "So I like to have these little meetings to get to know my officers and let them know a bit about their jobs. I saw in your files that you had quite a rough time aboard the Freeman."

"Yes I did, Commander. The Klingons had ambushed us near the neutral zone. The Captain ordered me to fire the weapons," Chloe said.

"The rest of the crew of the Freeman and I were taken to a camp, where they held us for 9 months. We managed to escape and beamed back to the ship. We contacted Starfleet Command and told them what happened. Unfortunately, the Captain died while trying to escape. I took command as Acting Captain of the Freeman and went to spacedock. Starfleet gave the rest of the crew, including myself, commendations for our recent mission," Chloe explained.

Commander James took a long drink from his mug before responding. That's a pretty harrowing ordeal. Not many officers subjected to the horrors of Klingon camps live to tell the tale. The fact that you and your crews survived and escaped certainly deserves that commendation. I promise, I'll do everything I can to avoid getting you into that situation again."

He sat up and shifted topics. "I want to move to something a bit lighter now: Your duties aboard Defiant. Obviously, things will be a bit different than when you were serving as a Tactical and Security Officer."

Chris slid a pad across the table to the young officer. "Primarily, your duties will involve coordination with the fleet. You'll be our official liaison to Starbase Arcadia and the rest of Starfleet."

"However, this is a deep space exploration vessel. Obviously, we're going to be spending extended periods of time away from the fleet. Therefore, you'll be serving a few varied roles on the ship. Since you have experience in the Security Department, I'd like you to serve as our Chief Forensic Officer aboard the ship. Obviously, Ensign Ang will be the chief of the Security department, but your expertise would be very useful in any on-ship investigations."

Since chloe had experience in the security Department stepping into the role of Chief Forensics Officer fit her security Background

"I'd also like you to serve as the official Assistant to our XO and Chief Intelligence Officer Summer Gallagher. She'll loop you in on any major intelligence work we are doing, and may need your assistance on assignments. Sound acceptable?"

Chloe said, "Sounds acceptable, Commander." She felt like she had many varied roles on the ship and she was only an ensign.

"Excellent. Then if there's no questions you have, you are free to go get settled in your new quarters." He stood up and extended a hand to her. "Welcome aboard, Ensign."
