Mission: Episode 0: Maiden Voyage
Location: Starship Housing, Starbase Arcadia
Timeline: Following "Sending Off"

Charlotte Reynolds stirred in her seat as the station work bee slowly made its way through the internal corridors of Arcadia. She'd been aboard Arcadia for over a day now, with no word on what her new posting would be. The secrecy concerned her. Generally, a CO would simply be informed of their posting and transferred. The fact that they hadn't told her made her worry that this could be a transfer they thought she'd fight, and it'd be easier to keep her there if she was already on the ship.

The first minutes of her work bee journey didn't make her feel much better. The pilot was taking his time, guiding them past a few ship housings. She'd seen only a handful of ships, mostly freighters, each of which old enough to make even her aged Walker-class Xheng He look like a sparkling youth. The anticipation left her playing with the cuffs of her grey and gold starbase uniform, which remained without a mission patch.

It was as they were approaching ship housing 6a that the pilot finally spoke up. "So they really didn't tell you anything about your new ship?" His voice held amusement. She couldn't tell if that was good or bad.

She tried to keep her own reply measured. "Not even the name. I suppose someone in the admiralty has a flair for the dramatic."

"So it would seem," the man replied, playing it equally close to the vest. "Well, housing 6A coming up on your left..."

She braced herself for disappointment. But as they approached, she immediately noticed that housing 6A was larger than the ones they'd just passed. Noticeably so. She stood to get a closer look, as if the extra half second would help. The movement elicited a chuckle from her pilot.

The first glimpse stirred her interest. The rim of a saucer peaked into view and immediately sent her mind racing. The saucer was large. Larger than she'd have thought. Could it be a Mayflower class? No, the lines on it were too smooth and modern. That intrigued her. It couldn't possibly be one of the new Aegis-class light cruisers could it? No. No, this craft was noticeably larger. A Kelvin-type that had undergone the new refit? couldn't possibly be...

Before she was able to complete the thought, the work bee made enough forward progress to slowly bring the vessel into view.

Its saucer section was set higher than many of the ships she'd considered. Its elegant lines led back to a sturdy neck, extending down to its sizable engineering section. 2 large nacelle pylons arched upward, supporting robust warp nacelles. The majestic frame of a mighty Constitution-class Heavy Cruiser dominated her vision. The station's work lights illuminated the hull, as its own running lights had yet to be activated. But even without it, the powerful vessel was quite the sight.

Charlotte found herself staring at the vessel in shock.

"So...still worried about your new assignment?" the pilot teased.

Charlotte just shook her head dumbfounded for a moment. Finally, her mind cleared enough to form words. " I suppose not."
